Southern Cross Credit Union (SCCU) expands its community reach, announcing a 3-year partnership with Byron Bay Wildlife Hospital and Sanctuary, home to the North Coast’s only all-species wildlife hospital licensed by the Veterinary Practitioners Board of NSW, and Australia’s largest mobile wildlife hospital.
It is important for SCCU to be involved in the projects that matter to those in our community, especially having seen first-hand the impact BBWH have had in treating over 3000 wildlife patients in their first two years of operation.
The local credit union not only financially supports the hospital, but they have also helped the organisation in expanding the koala enclosure at the sanctuary, providing volunteers to assemble wildlife car rescue kits to be sold, and participating in fundraising events throughout the year.
“Byron Bay Wildlife Hospital is a non-profit organisation dedicated to the treatment and rehabilitation of injured wildlife, which is aligned with SCCU’s values when it comes to fauna preservation. Their passion and drive to make a difference both locally and all over the country in time of need is second to none. The professionalism, knowledge, education and motivation of every team member is infectious, and we are lucky to be able to play a part in assisting them in their work to ensure Australia’s native wildlife are around for many generations to come. This new 3-year partnership will allow us to do a lot more with them.” Cassie Nicole, Sponsorship Specialist.
Bringing together the best wildlife veterinarians in the country to provide urgent care to threatened and injured Australian animals, the mobile hospital concept was conceived by two Australian veterinarians with a passion for wildlife, Dr. Stephen Van Mil and Dr. Evan Kosack. The 22-wheel hospital’s mobility and self-sufficiency means it can travel anywhere to assist a critical mass of wildlife in need. From its permanent home at the Byron Bay Wildlife Sanctuary, Byron Bay Wildlife Hospital provides full-time expert veterinary care for injured, sick, and orphaned wildlife free of charge.
“Southern Cross Credit Union have demonstrated their commitment to environmental sustainability in our region in a number of ways, said Dr Stephen Van Mil – Founder and CEO, Byron Bay Wildlife Hospital.
As well as funding projects to recycle plastic waste and remediate contaminated soil in the past, they support our mission to conserve, protect, and ensure positive welfare outcomes for Australian wildlife. We’re so very grateful to SCCU for their support and applaud their commitment to conservation and sustainability projects.”
