Proving how businesses can come together to make a real impact, Southern Cross Credit Union (SCCU) today announced an additional $10,000 on top of their $50,000 Community Grants program thanks to their international payments partner, American Express. Having tripled their contribution into the Grants program this year,
SCCU CEO, Stuart Edwards said, “The added investment from our partners at AMEX is more than a good news story, it’s a chance to give back on a bigger scale and work with like-minded businesses who want to do the same”.
SCCU’s Community Grants program is the biggest annual community program for the Credit Union and with more investment than ever before, it caught the attention of AMEX. By thinking differently and opening up applications to help the broader community including families, individuals, businesses and community groups, American Express were thrilled to contribute an additional grant of $10,000 towards what is already an impressive program to help the Northern Rivers region thrive.
The program this year has already seen many more applicants than last year’s total, exhibiting the strong support the local community have for the program. With ideas to increase emergency support, improve sustainability practices, take back momentum for small businesses and support those in need, the applications coming through are providing a great deal of hope for strengthening the future of our region.
Past recipients have used their SCCU Grants to make a huge impact on the Northern Rivers, with projects including building tunnels to produce over 60,000 trees per year to be replanted; providing breakfast to between 50-100 primary children every school day for 2 years; starting a program to put homeless women through food safety and barista courses to help them return to the workforce; producing a book to educate children about differences, diversity and disabilities in others; and purchasing new rescue equipment to reach the rising number of people in need.
Applications are now open and close on the 30th September
